Security Glass
Security Glass | High-Performance Security Glass Solutions
Security glass is designed to provide enhanced protection against forced entry, impact, and other security risks while maintaining the transparency and appearance of standard glazing. Security glass is suitable for commercial, residential, and institutional projects. It uses laminated glazing constructions selected according to the project's security, safety, and performance requirements. Archi Glass manufactures and supplies custom security glass from our Fairfield East facility for projects across Australia.
What Is Security Glass?
Security glass refers to a range of laminated glazing systems designed to resist different levels of impact, forced entry, ballistic attack, or blast pressure depending on the application. The performance is achieved through laminated construction, with multiple glass panes bonded using one or more structural interlayers. Depending on the required performance, these may include polyvinyl butyral (PVB), ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), or other specialised interlayer systems. The interlayers help absorb and distribute impact energy through the assembly. When the outer pane fractures, the interlayer helps hold the fragments together and maintain the integrity of the glazing. The number of panes, the interlayer type, the interlayer thickness, and the overall unit thickness are all variables that determine the resistance level the finished panel achieves. A smash-and-grab screen for a retail shopfront is a fundamentally different specification from a blast-rated facade panel for a government building. Both are laminated glass. The engineering behind each is not the same. Getting the specification right requires understanding the threat first, then selecting the assembly that resists it.
Types of Curved Glass
Mirror Glass
We are your trusted curved glass suppliers near you, offering curved glazing that not only adds aesthetics but also enhances energy efficiency in buildings. Our curved glass panels are perfect for creating captivating facades and reducing solar heat gain.
Double Glazed Glass
When it comes to insulation and noise reduction, curved double glazing is the answer. Our experts create curved double-glazing units where you need rounded or curved surfaces.
Toughened Glass
Safety and durability are paramount in architectural design, and as established curved glass suppliers, we also provide curved toughened glass, offering both strength and elegance. These curved toughened glass panels are ideal for balustrades and staircases.
Laminated Glass
Laminated glass is designed for applications where safety, security, acoustic performance, and structural integrity are essential. By bonding multiple glass panes with specialised interlayers, laminated glass provides enhanced protection while remaining in place if broken.
Annealed Glass
Before glass gets toughened, laminated, bent, or coated, it begins as annealed glass. It is the base material that the entire glazing industry builds from. And while it rarely gets the attention that processed glass types do, specifying it correctly matters more than most people expect
Printed Glass
Printed glass combines the performance of architectural glass with custom graphics, patterns, colours, and decorative finishes. Ideal for commercial, residential, and architectural applications, it allows designers to introduce branding, privacy, and visual impact without compromising the performance of the glazing system.
Security Glass
Security glass is designed to provide enhanced protection against forced entry, impact, and other security risks while maintaining the transparency and appearance of standard glazing.
Acoustic Glass
Acoustic glass is designed to reduce unwanted noise while maintaining the transparency and performance of modern glazing systems.
Security Glass Performance Levels
Security glazing can be specified for different levels of protection depending on the type of threat and the requirements of the project, including:
  • Forced entry resistance – designed to delay penetration from manual attack and forced entry attempts.
  • Ballistic resistance – designed for applications where protection against ballistic impact is required.
  • Blast resistance – engineered for projects where glazing must be designed around blast pressure and fragment protection.
  • Smash-and-grab resistance – designed to delay rapid impact and opportunistic forced-entry attempts, particularly in retail environments.
Key Features and Benefits
  • Multi-layer laminated construction for enhanced impact resistance
  • Custom assemblies designed to suit your project's security requirements
  • Optically clear – many security glazing configurations can maintain transparency without requiring tinting or obscuring the view.
  • Compatible with toughened glass panes within the laminated assembly for applications where both safety rating and security performance are required simultaneously
  • Available in large-format sizes for commercial facade and shopfront applications
  • Can be incorporated into framed, semi-framed, and structural glazing systems depending on the installation requirement
Common Applications
Security glass is specified across a wide range of project types where the glazing is a meaningful part of the building's protective envelope:
  • Retail shopfronts and display windows in high-risk commercial locations
  • Bank counters, teller screens, and financial institution glazing
  • Jewellery stores and high-value retail display cases
  • Government and institutional buildings with forced entry or ballistic threat requirements
  • Residential glazing in high-security properties where glass is identified as a vulnerability
  • Schools, hospitals, and public buildings where occupant safety in the event of external threat is a design requirement
  • Blast-rated facade glazing for infrastructure and defence facilities
The Frame System Matters as Much as the Glass
Security glazing performance depends on the complete installation, not the glass panel alone. The frame, fixings, installation method, and connection to the surrounding structure all need to be appropriate for the required level of protection.
A security-rated glass panel installed into an unsuitable frame can create a weak point in the overall assembly. For this reason, the glazing specification should be coordinated with the frame and fixing system at the design stage. Archi Glass can work with architects, builders, and project teams to review the glazing requirements and ensure the glass specification is considered as part of the wider installation system.
Security Glass in Non-Standard Formats
Archi Glass manufactures custom security glass for projects requiring oversized panels, non-standard shapes, or complex architectural specifications. Our Fairfield East facility supports large-format production and CNC machining for custom shapes, internal cut-outs, and specified edge profiles. Where security glazing needs to integrate with an unusual opening or architectural geometry, the requirements can be reviewed from the project drawings before production begins. Every specification should be confirmed at the design stage to ensure the glass configuration, dimensions, and installation requirements are coordinated before manufacture.
